Inqilab Moncho gives 24-hour ultimatum, leaves Shahbagh
Inqilab Moncho suspended its Shahbagh protest on Saturday, giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the home affairs adviser to publicly disclose what steps the government has taken to arrest those involved in the killing of its spokesperson, Sharif Osman Hadi.
The announcement was made on behalf of the organisation at a gathering in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area following the funeral prayer and burial of Hadi.
In case of the adviser’s failure, the organisation warned that students and members of the public would again take position at Shahbagh from Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday afternoon, Shahbagh turned volatile as students and people from all walks of life staged demonstrations demanding justice for the killing of Hadi.
Sharif Osman Hadi was laid to rest beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam near the Dhaka University Central Mosque. The burial took place around 3:30pm, following his janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The funeral prayer was held at 2:33pm and was attended by thousands of mourners from across the country. Hadi’s elder brother, Abu Bakar Siddique, led the funeral prayer.
