CA expresses condolences over death of Khaleda Zia

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep sorrow at the death of Begum Khaleda Zia, three-time former Prime Minister, symbol of the democratic movement, and Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

In a condolence message, the Chief Adviser said that with the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, the nation has lost a great guardian.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by her death,” he said.

Yunus said that Khaleda Zia was not merely the leader of a political party; she was an important chapter in the history of Bangladesh.

Considering her contributions, her long political struggle, and the deep public sentiment toward her, the government declared her a Very Important Person (VIP) of the state earlier this month.

He said her role in the struggle for democracy, a multi-party political culture, and the establishment of people’s rights in Bangladesh will be remembered forever. “Through her uncompromising leadership, the nation was repeatedly freed from undemocratic situations and inspired to reclaim democracy. The nation will remember her contributions with respect,” he added.

Despite political differences, her long political journey dedicated to national welfare, her people-oriented leadership, and her strong determination always provided guidance, the Chief Adviser said, adding that with her death the country has lost an experienced and tested stateswoman.

Yunus noted that Begum Khaleda Zia, a three-time former Prime Minister, was the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson who led the struggle to restore democracy against autocratic rule.

Earlier on Tuesday at 6:00am, Khaleda Zia passed away while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. She was 80 years old at the time of her death.
