LGED-CReLIC's workshop on loss and damage assessment held in Dhaka


Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Center (CRILIC) under the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming Project (CRIMP) implemented under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) organized an inception workshop in Dhaka today.

The event was held on Thursday (April 9) at the seminar room of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) headquarters.

Additional Chief Engineer of LGED and Director of CReLIC Md. Azharul Islam presided over the workshop while LGED's Chief Engineer Md. Belal Hossain graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

During his speech, the Chief Engineer said, "Under this LGED component, a database of post-disaster damages in three pilot districts—Satkhira, Bhola, and Barguna will be developed. Utilizing geospatial data this initiative will assist in evidence-based risk identification, strategic planning and targeted investment decision-making."

Professor Dr. Hasan Mahmud Team Leader of the consulting firm NACOM-O.CREEDS JV presented the methodology for disaster loss and damage data collection and the overall work plan to the participants.

Representatives from various departments, including the Department of Environment (DoE), Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Public Works Department (PWD) and the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) attended the workshop and shared their insights.

Notable attendees from LGED including Additional Chief Engineers Syeda Asma Khatun, Kazi Saiful Kabir and Md. Wahiduzzaman, Superintending Engineers Md. Akhter Hossain and Md. Golam Mowla, Project Director (CRIMP-CReLIC) Md. Abdul Khaleque, CReLIC Executive Engineer Fatema Ismat Ara and Assistant Engineer Arpan Paul along with specialist consultants from CReLIC were present at the event.
