PM presented the Independence Award to 15 individuals and 5 institutions


The late BNP Chairperson and former three-time Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been posthumously honored with the Independence Award 2026, the nation's highest state honor.

Her granddaughter, Zaima Rahman, daughter of the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, received the award on her behalf at a ceremony held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

This year, the government recognized 15 distinguished individuals and 5 organizations for their outstanding contributions to independence, the liberation war, science, literature, and social service.

Notable awardees alongside Khaleda Zia include legendary entertainer Hanif Sanket, sports icon Zobera Rahman Linu, and late social activist Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury.
