Invest in Bangladesh, PM urges expatriates

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday urged the Bangladeshi expatriates living in the UK to invest in Bangladesh’s various sectors, particularly the food-processing industry.

She made the call when visiting Speaker of the Tower Hamlet Council in London Ayas Miah met her at her Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office.

Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina said the government always welcomes the Bangladeshi expatriates living in the UK to invest in the food-processing industry as there is a huge demand for processed foods at home and abroad.

During the meeting, the Tower Hamlet Speaker termed Bangladesh a role model of development, saying the country is progressing as peace and stability prevails here.

He said the Bangladeshi expatriates in Britain, particularly the third generation, are very keen to invest in Bangladesh.

Ayas Miah assured that the support of the expatriates for the development of Bangladesh will continue.

The Tower Hamlet Council Speaker informed the Prime Minister that a road in London will be named after the name of late Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam.

At the meeting, a “Sommanona Plaque” was presented to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Centre for Non-resident Bangladeshi.

At the outset, Ayas Miah congratulated Sheikh Hasina on her assumption of office as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the third consecutive term.
