No specific policy for trucks and covered vans during Eid


State Minister of Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday said trucks, covered van won’t be allowed to cross Padma by ferry three days ahead and after Eid-ul-Azha.

Sacrificial animal carrying vehicles will be out of the instruction he said in a meeting at the Bidyut Bhaban over ensuring safety of home-going people and proper plying of launch, ferry and other water vehicles in Eid-ul-Azha season.

Khalid Mahmud said that plying of sand-carrying bulkheads in rivers will be closed five days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Reminding the successful team work of the last Eid-ul-Fitr, he said that “we will try to ensure the safety of all this year as well.”

“The law enforcers should be vigilant to avoid any unwanted incidents in the rivers while cattle carrying vehicles will be plying,” he added.

We should work with responsibility even if heavy rain and flood would interrupt the journey.

Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad, BIWTC Chairman Pronoy Kanti Biswas, BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mahbub Ul Islam, Water Transport Department Director-General Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, River Police DIG Md Atiqul Islam, Coast Guard Dhaka Zone Commander Rezaul Hasan and launch owners were present in the meeting.
