Two journalists burned in explosion at city shop


Two journalists sustained burn injuries on Tuesday evening in an explosion inside a shop at Mogbazar intersection in the capital.

The burned victims are—Mostafa Monowar Sujon, 44, News Editor of SA Television and Fazlul Haque Shawon, 54, Special Correspondent of online news portal Jagonews24.

Both were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and admitted to Burn Unit.

The saddened incident was happened around 7:00pm while the duo went to visit a shop of their common friend this evening.

Injured Shawon said that they entered into the shop opening the shutter and were hit by a blow of an explosion as soon as switching on an electric light. Later, a worker of Ghorowa restaurant took them to the hospital.

Dr. Meherunnesa Liza, Medical Officer of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, said that hands and faces o f the both victims were burned. Shawon sustained 24 per cent burn injuries including windpipe burned while Sujon had 11 per cent burn.

However, it is not clear why or how the explosion occurred.
