Dhaka improves position on world safe city index

Dhaka has improved as the least safe city in the latest edition of the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Safe Cities Index (SCI).

This year it climbed to the fifth position from the third at the bottom of the SCI recorded in last year.

The EIU said “the city fared poorly on digital security, health security, infrastructure security and personal security indicators”.

The four cities that rank below Dhaka are Karachi, Yangon, Caracas, and Lagos on the index respectively.

The top five cities on the indicator are Tokyo, Singapore, Osaka, Amsterdam and Sydney.

In the categories of digital, health, infrastructure and personal security on the index, Dhaka ranks fourth, fourth, second and sixth least from the bottom.
