Army chief’s Myanmar visit to bring good news for Bangladesh: FM

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday said the scheduled visit of the Army Chief to Myanmar will bring good news for Bangladesh and “open another line of negotiation” between the two countries over Rohingya repatriation.

"I think it (the visit) will go in favour of us. It'll bring good (result) for us," he told reporters at State guesthouse Padma.

The Foreign Minister termed Myanmar a friendly country and said they expect solution to Rohingya crisis through negotiations.

He briefed the reporters on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's participation at the 25th UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Madrid, Spain next month.

The 25th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 25) will convene from December 2-13.

The Prime Minister will leave Dhaka for Madrid on December 1 and will return home on December 3, said the Foreign Minister.

“Bangladesh will plant 10 million saplings across the country marking the birth centenary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.

Earlier, Chile, citing the impact of the ongoing anti-government protests, announced that it was withdrawing as host of the upcoming COP25 annual climate summit.
