Indian PM Modi visits Jashoreshwari Kali Temple in Satkhira


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jashoreshwari Kali Temple at Ishwaripur village in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district on Saturday morning.

Modi, who is visiting Bangladesh to attend the celebration of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence of the country, reached there at around 10:00am.

Later, he stayed there for 30 minutes and offered puja at the temple.

Jashoreshwari Kali Temple is an ancient holy place where the remains of Goddess Sati or Shakti, the chief deity of power in Hinduism, are believed to have fallen.

The temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, as per the Hindu mythology, scattered across India and neighbouring countries with six in Bangladesh.

According to Hindu mythology, of the 51 Peeths, the temple at Ishwaripur is the place where the palms and soles of feet of Goddess Sati fell and the goddess resides there in the form of Devi Jashoreshwari and Lord Shiva appears as Chanda.

After offering puja at the temple, the Indian premier will visit Tungipara of Gopalganj to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at his mausoleum. He will plant a tree there.

Later, he will visit Orakandi Thakur Bari, a sacred shrine of the “Matua” community in Gopalganj.

He will also exchange views with the family members of Harichand Thakur and leaders of Matua community.
