T Sports acquires FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights

T Sports, the first and only sports channel in Bangladesh, will broadcast live the upcoming 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup scheduled to begin in Qatar on November 20.

The TV channel confirmed the matter through a press release on Thursday and informed that it has bought the broadcasting rights and will air all the matches of the FIFA World Cup live, which is also considered ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’.

Apart from broadcasting all the 64 World Cup matches, T Sports will also air World Cup-centric TV shows, the press release said.

Former players from Europe and Latin America, who played in the previous editions of the World Cup, will also join various shows of T Sports during the event.

Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman and T Sports Managing Director Safwan Sobhan expressed his satisfaction after getting the opportunity to broadcast the FIFA World Cup in Bangladesh.

“As the first sports channel in the country, we have been taking the initiative to broadcast live all the popular events of the sports world since the beginning,” Safwan was quoted in the press release.

“The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious event in the world of sports. The passion of the people of this country towards football and the FIFA World Cup has always been different. That is why we have continued to negotiate to get the rights to broadcast the FIFA World Cup in Bangladesh,” he added.

T Sports Chief Executive Officer Ishtiaq Sadek said they are planning to add a wide range of programmes during the World Cup time to give Bangladesh viewers a completely different taste this time around.

“Previously, various shows were broadcasted in Bangladesh during the Football World Cup. But our thinking is completely different this time. We want to create programmes to compete with various international sports channels and we made some plans in this regard. Hopefully, T Sports viewers will have a show to be proud of,” said Ishtiaq.

T Sports has been broadcasting various sports events in and outside the country since its inception. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will add a new feather to the wings of success for T Sports.

T Sports – the youngest member of the Bashundhara Group-owned East West Media Group Limited, started its journey in November 2020 with the Bangladesh-Nepal Bangabandhu International FIFA Friendly Series.

T Sports also telecast the last year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Oman and UAE and they are expected to broadcast the next ICC event matches as well.
