PM pays courtesy call on President

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday.

This was Tarique Rahman’s first meeting with Mirza Fakhrul at Bangabhaban since the latter assumed office as president.

Upon the arrival of the prime minister at Bangabhaban at 3pm, the president welcomed him and introduced the senior officials of his office, including the military secretary, secretary and press secretary, to the prime minister.

During the meeting, the prime minister briefed the president on his recent visit to the United States, participation in the UNGA session, and meetings on the sidelines with heads of state and government of different countries, the UN chief and UN high officials, and senior representatives of international economic and development partner organisations.

The president warmly congratulated the prime minister on his historic address at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), describing it as “forward-looking, resolute and guiding”.

Mirza Fakhrul said the speech reflected Bangladesh’s national interests and the hopes and aspirations of its people, while clearly presenting the country’s positions on important global issues.

He further said the visit played an important role in further consolidating and strengthening Bangladesh’s position on the international stage and safeguarding the interests of its people. It also made significant contributions to expanding and strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations.

Both leaders also discussed various issues of national and state interest during the meeting. The president thanked the prime minister for visiting Bangabhaban.
