The project is expected to boost production capacity, diversify products and create jobs

Bangladesh-based electrical products manufacturer MEP Group plans to invest around Tk 200 crore to establish a modern manufacturing facility at the National Special Economic Zone in Mirsarai, Chattogram, as the company moves to expand production and strengthen its position in the domestic electrical products market.

The company said the factory will be built on 10 acres of land and will manufacture a wide range of electrical products, including lighting equipment, switches and sockets, circuit breakers, fans and cables.

The investment is expected to increase domestic production capacity, broaden the range of locally manufactured electrical products and create new employment opportunities. It is also expected to support the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s local electrical products industry.

New factory at the heart of expansion strategy

MEP Group said the planned facility will form an important part of its long-term expansion strategy, with a focus on product quality, technology, innovation and market development.

Speaking as chief guest at a recent programme in Dhaka, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Administrator Md Fazlul Hoque said the investment would contribute to the production of higher-quality and more diversified electrical products.

He said the project would also support industrialisation, employment generation and the expansion of domestic manufacturing capacity.

MEP Group Managing Director Dr Jahangir Alam Chakladar said the new factory was not simply an expansion of production capacity but a key component of the company’s broader strategy.

“The new factory will serve as a centrepiece of our long-term plans for improving product quality, technology, innovation and market expansion,” he said.

He said MEP aims to strengthen its contribution to Bangladesh’s electrical products market by working more closely with retailers, distributors and consumers.

Focus on distribution and market expansion

MEP Group Director Shakil Alam Chakladar said the company’s business partners, particularly retailers and distributors, would remain an important part of its expansion strategy.

He said the recent prize-giving programme was organised to recognise their contribution to the company’s business.

Once the new factory begins supplying products to the market, MEP plans to develop a stronger marketing and distribution network to support market expansion and introduce new products, he added.

Business partners rewarded

The company recently organised the “MEP Accessories Super Offer 2026 Grand Achiever Celebration” at a hotel in Dhaka as part of its business engagement programme.

A total of 80 winners received prizes, including 78 motorcycles and two refrigerators. The event also featured an exhibition of MEP products and a business exchange session involving company officials, retailers and distributors.

The MEP Accessories Special Offer will run from October to December 2026, according to the company.

Senior MEP Group officials, businessmen, distributors, retailers and media representatives attended the programme.

With the planned Tk 200 crore investment, MEP Group is positioning the Mirsarai facility as a major manufacturing base for its next phase of growth, with an emphasis on higher production capacity, product diversification, technology and a stronger domestic market presence.

Currently, around 15 industrial units are in operation at the National Special Economic Zone, while about 20 more are under construction.

Earlier, A land lease agreement was signed between the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) and MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited at Beza’s office in Dhaka’s Agargaon 18 February.

Established in 1974, MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited is a business conglomerate with around 2,000 corporate clients and more than 1,000 distribution networks nationwide.
