Bangladeshi ship 'Banglar Joyjatra' fails to cross Strait of Hormuz

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) vessel ‘Banglar Joyjatra’ was once again forced to retreat from the Strait of Hormuz after being blocked by the Iranian Navy on Friday night, April 17, 2026.

Despite a ceasefire being in effect since April 8, the Iranian authorities halted all vessels around midnight, stating that no passage would be allowed without explicit permission from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The ship, carrying 31 crew members and a cargo of fertilizer destined for Cape Town, South Africa, is now returning to the outer port of Minasakar in the UAE.

While the crew remains safe with sufficient food supplies, the ship has implemented strict water rationing to conserve resources as it remains stranded in the volatile Middle East region for over 40 days.
