Vehicle fares and commodity prices are rising: Dr. Zahed
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor, Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, addressed the challenges of rising fuel prices at the Secretariat.
He stated that the government is negotiating logical fare adjustments for buses and trucks to ensure a balance between consumer interests and the survival of transport businesses.
Attributing the long queues at fuel pumps to "panic buying" and an artificial 3-4 times increase in demand, he clarified that actual supply has only a 10-15% global-trend deficit.
Dr. Rahman acknowledged the hardship on low-income families, emphasizing that the government would intensify support programs for the most vulnerable citizens to mitigate the impact of rising commodity prices.
