Deceased bankers' families to get up to 50L compensation

Family members, who are beneficiaries of bank officials and employees, will get up to Tk50 lakh in compensation if the bankers die from Covid-19.

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) issued a circular in this regard on Monday.

The central bank notice also said that the first class officers - namely senior officers, probationary officers and management trainee officers, or equivalent rank holders, who died from Covid-19 - will get up to Tk50 lakh as compensation from their respective banks.

Trainee assistant officers, or equivalent officers of banks, who died from the novel virus, will get up to Tk37.50 lakh as compensation, the notice also said.

Staff and sub-staff (employed in any process) of banks, who died from the virus, will be able to get up to Tk25 lakh.

The central bank also asked banks not to adjust the compensations with any other liabilities of the bank.

The instruction would be effective from March 29 of last year, when the government announced a general holiday to control the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic and will remain in force until further notice, BB also said.

The effectiveness of the directive in this regard issued on April 15 last year has been revoked.
