Deal signed for 23,093 MW since 2009: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government signed 126 power plant projects having generation capacity of 23,093 megawatt (MW) since 2009.

"A total of 63 power plants having electricity generation capacity of 7,800 MW, out of 126 power plants, successfully commissioned during 2009- 2018," she told this, while replying to a starred question from opposition bench member M Nurul Islam Omar of Bagura-6 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Sheikh Hasina said some 88 new power plants having 8,819 MW generation capacity started power generation commercially from January 2009 to December 2017.

"The number of electricity beneficiary rose to 90 percent (including renewable energy) from 47 percent and per capita power generation increased to 433 Kwh, which was 220 Kwh," she told the House.

The Premier said the government has been marching forward with achieving a vision 2021 to produce 24,000 MW by 2021, 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041.

"By 2021 power generation capacity would be rose to 24,000 MW along with transmission ability and 100 percent electricity coverage would be ensured," she added.
