Voting begins in BGMEA election

The biennial elections of the apparel apex body-- BGMEA-- for the term of 2025-27 begins today (Saturday) in the morning in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Vote casting has started from 8:00 am will continue until 5:00 pm at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka and Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram simultaneously.

A total of 1,835 voters are expected to cast their votes and there is slow vote casting in the morning which is expected gradually being increased.

People present at the place said there are strict security and voters will come and cast their votes during the time 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, two hours more than the previous time.

A total of 76 candidates from three panels-- Sammilita Parishad, Forum and Oikko Parishad-- are contesting for the 35 posts of board of directors of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Both Sammilita Parishad and Forum panels have announced their full slates each comprising of 35 candidates while Oikko Parishad is contesting with six candidates.

Chaity Group managing director and chief executive officer Md Abul Kalam is leading Sammilita Parishad while Rising Group managing director Mahmud Hasan Khan is the panel leader of Forum.

Romo Group chairman Mohammad Mohsin is the panel leader of Oikko Parishad.
