DSCC declares 21-day lockdown at some areas of Wari


Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh Tuesday declared a 21-day lockdown from July 04 until July 25 at some areas of Wari area in old Dhaka, the second red-zone selected for lockdown after Razabazar to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The mayor said that the Razabazar model will be implemented at some areas of ward 41 zone Wari. The outer areas are – Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (From Joy Kali Mandir to Baldha Garden). The inner roads are – Lalmini Road, Hare Road, War Road, Rankin Road and Nawab Road.

The mayor announced the lockdown at a press briefing after holding a meeting of the central management committee at the Nagar Bhaban.

“Lockdown will be effective from 6:00 am of July 04 until 6:00 pm of  July 25. The next three days—July 01 to 03-- will be for preparation of the field level staff and volunteers and city corporation. There will be miking in those areas to make people aware of the lockdown rules and other activities,” Barrister Taposh said.

He said that only two roads will be opened for the entrance and exit.

Answering to a question, Mayor Taposh said that so far there are 46 Covid-19 cases detected in Wari. But there is possibility that the number may increase. That is why DSCC has decided for lockdown.

“If necessary, there will be arrangements for treatment for the non-Covid patients at the lockdown area. Covid patients will be treated at Mahanagar General Hospital. Only medicine and essential items will be supplied in the area. Besides, essential commodities will be supplied through e-commerce by Meena Bazar, Swapno and others,” he said.
