FT ONLINE

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Wednesday said the government is working to establish green economy, which is environment-friendly, low-carbon emission and climate tolerable, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"In 2030, Bangladesh will reduce five to 15 percent of carbon in electricity, transport and industrial sectors. And that's why the government is accelerating the activities of green industrialisation and green products," he said.

The industries minister said this while speaking at a plenary session, titled 'Role of 3R and Fresh Air-Air Pollution Circular Economy' of the 'High Level Eighth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific' in Madhya Pradesh of India Wednesday, according a message received in Dhaka yesterday.

Amu said the government is sincerely working to increase the use of renewable energy in households and industries.

"We've already set up solar panels on the rooftop of over 40 lakh houses across the country. Now, about 1.60 crore people are using solar panels," he said.
