CPA takes strategic master plans for user friendly port

Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman Commodore Julfiqur Aziz said the authority has taken short, medium and long term strategic master plans to turn the sea port into a user friendly in line with present government's vision-2021.

"In this view CPA has undertaken short, medium and long term strategic master plans to cope with increasing growth of cargo, containers and vessel handling of the port", CPA chairman said this while changing views with journalists in observance of Chittagong Port Day at Shahid Munshi auditorium hall on Tuesday. 

CPA Chairman said as part of directives of present government, initiative has been taken to make the Newmooring container terminal fully operational after procurements of handling equipments.

"Nine rubber tyre gantry cranes, four straddle carriers, five container movers, one rail mountain gantry crane have been added to the fleet and shipment of three others straddle carriers are expected to reach the port soon," Julfiqur said. 

He said letter of credit (LC) for procurement of six ship to ship shore gantry cranes, two rubber tyre gantry cranes, and one mobile harbor crane has already been opened for infusing dynamism in operational activities of port.

In observance of the day, CPA will kick off tomorrow a daylong programme through distributing traditional Chittagonian Mezbaan foods at the CPA republican club at 9 am. 

The main programme of the day includes hoisting of the national and CPA flags at the Port Bhaban at 9 am and accords reception to the retired employees of the port at 4 pm.

The daylong programme includes discussions, view-exchange and colourful cultural function.

CPA member finance Kamrul Amin, Harbor master Comodore Shahin Rahman, Captain Khondokher Akter Hossain and port secretary Omar Faruk among others attended the view exchanging meeting.
