UGC allows private universities to enroll new students

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed the private universities to enroll new students for the next semester from June and they can take classes from July 1.

The UGC has finalised the guidelines on conducting the academic activities of private universities including holding examinations and evaluation through online with the provision of not put pressure on students for fees.

UGC Chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah said that the private universities should not put pressure on the students for fees. They must consider the current situation.

"The private universities must follow the UGC directive for running the online classes and holding examinations and evaluation," he said.

"We will take action if any university violate the guideline," he added.
