Three eminent persons become national professors

The government has appointed three eminent persons as national professors.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

They are: former Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Chittagong University Alamgir Mohammad Sirazuddin, President of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BIRDEM) AK Azad Khan and President of Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society Prof Mahmud Hasan.

National Professor is a prestigious teaching award given by the Government of Bangladesh for outstanding contribution on the field of education.

The awarded persons receive various facilities from the government.

They receive a fixed amount of salary through the University Grants Commission.

They are able to do any educational/research work in with any research organisation/institute in their choice.

They receive all the facilities from the respected organisations/institutes.

They are able to join any foreign university as visiting professor.

They will not be able to take any salary from any other organisations/institutes except the government.

They will not be treated as government officers.
