FT ONLINE

Fifty-seven Bangladeshi nationals, who got stuck in India due to coronavirus lockdown, returned home through Benapole check-post under a special arrangement on Thursday.

Subhankar Kumar Mandal, medical officer of Benapole Immigration Health Centre, said the Bangladeshi nationals who returned home were sent the Benapole Community Centre for quarantine.

These people went to India for treatment, business and tourism purposes and got stuck when the Indian government declared lockdown to prevent the virus spread.

A total of 544 people have so far returned from India since April 6 and they were kept in 14-quarantine at Benapole Community centre and Gazir Dargah in Jashore.

The body of a Bangladeshi national who died there was also brought back.
