A good innings will turn things around for me: Tamim

Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal said he believes a good innings will change his lean appearance in the ongoing World Cup. 

He appeared in all the matches in this World Cup for Tigers but returned three low scores. Tuesday’s game against Sri Lanka was washed out because of rain.

“I think I’ll be up and running if I score in the next couple of games,” he told the media recently.

Tamim blamed his own expectations from himself as the reason behind his poor form in the World Cup.

“Those who are close to me will understand how I’m feeling now. It’s my expectation that’s creating pressure on me. I don’t want to go back to those days (2015 World Cup, when Tamim was really poor in the field). I hope the people will forget everything if I play a good innings, and it’s the beauty of the game,” he said. 

In the last World Cup, Tamim was targeted by fans on the social media for his poor performance. He said he has been trying to stay away from the social media this time around. 

Bangladesh started their World Cup assault with a brisk win over South Africa, who came to the World Cup as number three ODI team. 

However, in the second and third games, Tigers suffered heart-breaking losses to New Zealand and England. Tamim returned 24 and 19 runs in those matches, which created immense pressure on the batting line. 

Bangladesh will take on West Indies in their next game on June 17 at Taunton.
