Balancing Refugee Protection with Justice for locals
Any decision regarding Refugees must be consulted with locally elected leaders, it is my concerns
I have seen a mild reaction from a local NGO leader Nurul Amin Bhai on erecting permanent shelter in Refugee camps, he tried to tell that it is being done by Save the Children and NRC, these were Pucca one storied shelter. Previously such a construction has been done by a company and BRAC, these were with light material and two storied. So far, we gathered BRAC and these company created shelter funded by UNHCR.
When a local journalist quarried, RRRC has conceded that these has government approval. But there are several questions, most of these lands’ owner is department of forest, are they have given permission? On top there are protest rally against those shelter constructions in Ukhiya, local Union / Local govt chairman and Member of Parliament has protested these. Why the government, UN and INGOs are hardly bothered to take prior consultation with locally elected leaders?
We all know the 2017 Rohingya influx has been accepted by the then government without taking opinion from locally elected leaders, for a so-called personal image building. Any decision regarding Refugees must be consulted with locally elected leaders, it is my concerns.
Some of my friends reacted to the opinion of Nurul Amin Bhai negatively, i.e., we are opposing refugees’ human rights, especially some of my international friends.
Around 17 UN agencies, & 61 INGOs are working in Refugee camps, do they have ever done any campaign in their home country and country of origin protested and demanded any accountability of Myanmar junta on the genocide happened with Rohingya community, so far none of any example?

USAID is the biggest donor in Rohingya response, they have unethical agreement with Rwanda to deport illegal immigrant / Refugees to Rwanda.
Australian Aid is another one biggest donor in Rohingya response, they have the same unethical agreement with Papua New Guinea to deport illegal immigrant / Refugees.
Japan government must have to halt construction of Narita airport around one decade as one farmer family denied giving their land.
I must say that our government either so generous of weak so that some of UN and INGO official can exert pressure on our government, which is double standard that they can not do in their country of origin. We in principle agreed to respect human rights, but it must be proportionate respecting rights, concerns, and problem of local host community.
Mind that, Coxsbazar is the second highest poverty prone district in Bangladesh, its people livelihood very much depends on natural resources, i.e., land, forest, rice, salt, and fish .
