Iran will engage in talks with 'complete distrust' towards the United States: Abbas Araghchi

On the eve of the landmark peace talks in Islamabad, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed profound distrust of the United States during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

According to Mehr News and Al Jazeera, Araghchi described Washington’s past diplomatic conduct as a history of "broken promises" and "betrayal."

He emphasized that Iran is entering the negotiations solely to defend its people's rights and national interests, and will exert maximum pressure to ensure those rights are upheld.

This hardline stance, coming just hours before the Saturday, April 11, 2026, meeting, has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the possibility of a successful diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East conflict.
