Special audit to be conducted in all banks: Kamal


Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said the government is going to arrange special audit in each bank for ensuring transparency and integrity in the financial sector.

“We will arrange special audit for each and every bank. We will start the work with three audit farms. We’ll look into – who have taken the loans . . . we want to bring the banking sector to a position where there will be only victory of honesty,” he said.

The finance minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Annual Business Conference-2019 of the Rupali Bank Limited at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the city.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir and Additional Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Fazlul Haque were present as special guests while Rupali Bank Chairman Manjur Hossain, MP, was in the chair.

Managing Director of the Rupali Bank Limited M Ataur Rahman Pradan delivered the welcome speech.

Kamal said the government will take a decision on the special audit after consultation with the central bank governor and secretary of the financial institutions division.

He said the government will take strict actions against the loan defaulters who take the loans with an intention.

“Defaulting loan is a crime. Not just for you, for the whole country. There are two types of borrowers. One who take the loan intentionally and they never return the loan. We will have to see, who are the real businessmen and who are the dishonest businessmen. Dishonest businessman will not be spared,” he added.

He asked the officials of the banking sector to be more careful at the time of giving loans and keep up their monitoring activities.

Expressing his satisfaction over the development of Bangladesh economy, Kamal said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable successes in all economic indicators and each and every people is playing a vital role in this regard.

He said Bangladesh has attained 41st position among the largest economies in the world in 2019, up from the 58th position of ten years ago.

“We want to attain the 20th position after keeping behind 21 countries within the next 21 years. I hope that we can reach the goal in 2041,” he added.

Fazle Kabir asked the officials of the Rupali Bank Limited to make further efforts to bring the classified loan to a tolerable level and earn more profit.

Ataur Rahman Pradan said Rupali Bank Limited is providing special focus on taking banking services to the doorsteps of the common people.
