Govt trying to attract foreign investors in ship breaking sector: Humayun

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said the government is trying to attract foreign investors in the ship breaking sector.

“The Ministry of Industries is facilitating the ship breaking sector. We are also trying to attract foreign investors for the ship building sector. State run Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) under the Ministry of industries, will provide land to Gentium Solutions, a Singapore and Australia based company and Damen Shipyard Groups, a Dutch Company, to construct a shipyard near Payra Port, Patuakhali,” he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of 4th Edition of Bangladesh International Marine and Offshore Expo 2022 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city,  said a press release.

In his speech, Humayun said Bangladesh is moving ahead towards the development of super highway under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
 
“Over the decades, Bangladesh economy has been witnessing a steady growth record because of qualitative changes in our industrial sector and we are heading towards double-digit growth trajectory. We have been pursuing environment friendly, green and quality industrialization with a view to achieving the desired goal of industrial development,” he added.
