Stop selling gift cards: Commerce Ministry to Evaly

The Ministry of Commerce has asked controversial e-commerce platform Evaly to stop selling recently launched gift cards with which its business operations resumed on October 28.

The ministry also asked Evaly to follow the e-commerce guidelines and warned its authority that if this activity is not stopped, legal action will be taken.

In a notification on Tuesday, the ministry stated that digital products cannot be sold defying the Digital Commerce Operation Guidelines, 2021, or, in special cases, without approval from the Bangladesh Bank.

The ministry observed that Evaly sold digital products unsystematically and offered abnormal discounts bypassing the Digital Commerce Operation Guidelines, 2021.

After being closed for more than a year, the e-commerce company Evaly started its operations with the new business event 'Thanksgiving Festival' on October 28. It also expressed gratitude to customers, traders, and well-wishers.
