Govt to buy 130,000 tonnes of fertiliser from UAE, Canada at Tk 853cr


The government will buy 130,000 tonnes of urea and MOP fertilisers from the United Arab Emirates and Canada under government to government agreement with a cost of Tk 853.56  crore.

The government has also approved a proposal for importing 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid at Tk 73.85 crore.

The proposals were approved at a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held on Wednesday. The meeting was presided by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahmud Khan, briefed reporters about the approved proposals.

The Additional Secretary said the 28th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the 37th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement were held today (Wednesday). The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries has sent a proposal to import 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from United Arab Emirates Fertiglob Distribution Limited at Tk 163.75 crore and the proposal was approved.

A proposal of importing 50,000 tonnes of muriate-of-potash (MOP) fertiliser from Canadian Commercial Corporation under a state-level contract by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) was approved at Tk 344,90,60,465.

In addition, BCIC under the Ministry of Industry has requested 10,000 metric tons of phosphoric acid for TSP Complex Limited (TSPCL) located in Chittagong and 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid from China’s Guizhou Chanen Chemical Corporation (local representative: Best Eastern, Dhaka) at Tk 73.85 crore were also approved.
