Police arrest a member of Indian visa fraud gang

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested an active member of an Indian visa fraud gang from the Bhatara area of Dhaka.

The arrestee is identified as Badrul Alam and a case has been lodged with Bhatara Police Station.

Jannatul Naim Tapos, security in-charge of the Indian Visa Centre in Dhaka confirmed this to reporters on Saturday.

Tapos said he has information that Badrul has been collecting money from ordinary people in the name of promising appointments for Indian visas.

One Abdur Rahat lodged an allegation, saying that Badrul has taken Tk 70,000 from him, promising appointments for Indian visas for him and his wife, Faiza Yasmin.

Based on the allegation, police on 19 June took a strategic position in the Indian visa centre and caught Badrul.

During primary interrogation, Badrul confessed that he is an active member of an organised visa fraud gang, police said.

He, along with his other accomplices, creates artificial jams on the India visa application site to force people to seek appointments through them, police added.

The law enforcers are currently conducting raids at various places, following his confessional statement of Badrul to nab other members of the fraud gang.
