Mentioning that the growth in income from the country's Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is over 100 percent, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Monday said the government has been working to attain $5 billion export target from the ICT sector by 2021.

"We're earning around $180 million from the ICT sector every year while the government is also working to attain $5 billion export target from the ICT sector by 2021. If we can make popular the BPO industry to the new generation, then it's possible to boost the income from this sector to two or three times," said the Minister.

The Industries Minister said this while addressing a seminar titled "4th Industrial Revolution: Challenges of Business Process Outsourcing" held at a city hotel marking the BPO Summit 2018. The ICT Department and Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing jointly organized the seminar.

Moderated by the Boston Consulting Group managing director Zarif Munir, BCG principal Nitin Chandalia presented the key-note paper at the seminar.

ICT Division joint secretary M Mohsin-ul-Haque spoke on the occasion while some entrepreneurs of the ICT and BPO sector also shared their experiences.

Terming the BPO sector as one of the fastest growing industries of the world, Amu said this sector has currently a market size of around $500 billion and this has opened up a new possibility for the rising economy of Bangladesh.

Mentioning that around 30,000 Bangladeshi youths are currently working in call centers and various outsourcing companies, the Industries Minister said if this talented and creative youth folk is nurtured and utilized properly in the BPO sector, then they would become self reliant and thus contribute to nation building as worthy professionals through paying taxes.
