BD reports 27 more deaths, 1,632 new cases


Bangladesh logged 27 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8 am.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,156, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 1,632 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 495,841.

The latest day's infection rate was 9.59 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.40 percent. The death rate stands at 1.44 percent.

2,622 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 429,351 with an 86.59 percent recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 23 were men and four were women. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 19 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, one each from Rajshahi and two from and Rangpur.

Meanwhile, 17,025 samples were tested in 140 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,022,537 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,462 of the total deceased were men and 1,694 were women.

939 people have been placed in quarantine in the last 24 hours. Now, 40,836 people are in quarantine across the country, reads the press release.

163 Covid-19 suspected patients were taken into isolation in last 24 hours. Now, 12,443 people are staying in different isolation units across the country.

The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
