BD reports 38 more deaths, 1153 new cases


Bangladesh has registered 38 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 7,280.

The country's death rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.45% says a press statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

At least 1,153 new infections were recorded within the period, taking the number of total people infected to 500,713.

However, a total of 1,926 people have recovered from the disease over the last 24 hours and the total number of recoveries has reached 437,527.

According to the press release, the latest infection rate was 8.66% out of the total tests conducted and the recovery rate was 87.38.

Of the deceased, 30 were men and eight were women. All of then passed away in different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 22 of them are hailed from Dhaka division, eight from Chattogram, three from Sylhet, two from Rajshahi, and one each from Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.

Meanwhile, 13,316 samples were tested in 160 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,075,680 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The country's first cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

Globally, the notorious virus has killed at least 1,693,259 people since the outbreak emerged in China last December, according to the Worldometer at 09:10 GMT on Sunday.

At least 76,690,612 people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Of them, 53,817,406 have recovered so far.
