Jamaat-led alliance unveils 5-point demand, seek referendum on July Charter


A coalition of several political parties led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a new phase of movement with a five-point demand, including the immediate implementation of the July National Charter and holding a referendum on it within November.

The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at the National Press Club.

The leaders of the protesting parties presented their demands and upcoming programs through a written statement.

Five-Point Demands

> Immediate issuance of an order to implement the July National Charter and conduct a referendum on it within November

> Introducing a Proportional Representation (PR) system in both houses, including the upper house, of the upcoming National Parliament.

> Ensuring a level playing field for all parties to guarantee a free, fair, and credible national election.

> Visible justice for all acts of oppression, persecution, massacres, and corruption allegedly committed by the current “fascist” government.

> A ban on the political activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-Party Alliance, labeled as collaborators of autocracy

The leaders of the protesting parties also announced that a memorandum would be submitted to the Election Commission on 30 October, followed by the announcement of broader programs at a press conference on 3 November.

Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Principal Yunus Ahmad, Secretary General of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Dr. Ahmad Abdul Kader, Secretary General of Khilafat Majlis; Maulana Sakhawat Hossain, Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Khilafat Majlis; Maulana Yusuf Ashraf, Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis; Maulana Musa bin Izhar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Nezame Islami Party; Maulana Mujibur Rahman Hamidi, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan; Engineer Rashed Pradhan, Spokesperson of JAGPA; and Nizamul Haque Nayeem, Secretary General of Bangladesh Development Party were present at the press conference.
