Recovering illegal weapons before the election is very urgent: EC Sanaullah

Before the 13th national election, former Election Commissioner Brigadier Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah commented that it is crucial to recover illegal weapons. He said that recovering illegal weapons is very important to prevent any kind of use of illegal arms before the election. He made these remarks on Tuesday (January 6) morning at a discussion meeting with the law enforcement cell at the Chattogram Circuit House. About 15 percent of the weapons and 30 percent of the ammunition looted from police stations after the July uprising have still not been recovered. EC Sanaullah stated that efforts are ongoing to retrieve these weapons. He also warned law enforcement about the Rohingyas. He said that camps must be sealed, and monitoring should be increased at land borders and sea routes to prevent criminals from using these weapons to commit crimes in any way. The upcoming national parliamentary election is extremely important. If this election is not conducted well, everyone will have to face its consequences. After the overthrow of the autocratic Awami League government in the popular uprising on August 5, 2024, various police units, including police stations, outposts, and boxes, were attacked and arson incident occurred.
A total of 5,753 firearms were looted from these places.
