GP announces Tk100cr initiatives to fight Covid-19


Grameenphone, the largest mobile network operator of the country, has announced five new initiatives worth Tk100 crore responding to the ongoing Covid-19 fight.

The operator announced the initiatives and contributions on Friday to stand by its commitment to supporting frontline medical personnel, customers, and its retailers during the pandemic.

Yasir Azman, chief executive officer of Grameenphone (GP), disclosed the initiatives at a virtual press briefing.

In continuation of its support to frontline medical heroes, this time, GP will extend further support to 25,000 doctors certified by the health directorate fighting virus pandemic. GP will offer monthly 30GB data for the next six months with a token of Tk1 per month to them. 

GP is distributing a total of 10 crore free mins to its one crore identified prepaid customers (10 mins per customer) who could not recharge in April and having a mere balance. 

This effort will keep its valued customers connected to their near and dear ones. Moreover, being an essential service provider, GP introduces Tk0.48 per minute call-rate from 8am to 12pm for its 7.5 crore customers during the crisis period. 

Besides, the operator acknowledges contributions of its retailers who play a vital role in serving its customers during the crisis. It announced a safety-net credit scheme for its most affected retailer's worth Tk10 crore to help them overcome these difficult times.
