Decision on the new transportation fare on Thursday

Following the recent surge in fuel prices, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced that a final decision on adjusted transport fares for buses and trucks will be reached this Thursday.

While transport owners are pushing for a realistic rate hike to offset the rising costs of diesel and vehicle maintenance, the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association has strictly instructed operators not to overcharge passengers until the government’s official announcement tomorrow.

This follows a significant price hike effective since April 19, which saw diesel climb to 115 Taka per liter and octane reach 140 Taka, leaving both commuters and the transport sector in a state of high anticipation for the upcoming regulatory balance.
