JP candidate Mostafizar Rahman reelected Rangpur city mayor


Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Mostafizar Rahman has been reelected mayor of Rangpur City Corporation.

He got 1,46,798 votes while his nearest rival Amiruzzaman Piyal of Islami Andolan Bangladesh 49,892 votes in the polls held on Tuesday. Results were announced at night.

Independent candidate engineer Latifur Rahman Milan bagged 33,883 votes and Awami League candidate advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia 22,306 votes. Latifur Rahman was Awami League’s rebel candidate.

The Election Commission flagged 86 of the 229 polling stations in Rangpur City Corporation elections as vulnerable and used CCTV cameras to surveil them.

A total of 260 candidates, including nine for the mayoral post, 183 for the general councillor posts and 68 for the reserved councillor posts, were in the fray. A general councillor candidate was elected unopposed.
